The Wrong Fork in the Road

Payers, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), members of Congress, imaging utilization management firms, and others continue to strive to find the correct pathway to the control of imaging costs. We, the members of the ACR, must help them. The optimal pathway is one that emphasizes quality and prohibits inappropriate imaging and economically motivated self-referral. The College continues to articulate these reasons for increased health care costs to payers, the public, and Congress. We are gaining traction; however, payers still search for a simple solution and a direct path toward cost control.
