Pharmacy technicians continue to play an integral role in supporting pharmacy practitioners in virtually all settings. As we look at the needs of patients and at future practice models, it is clear that pharmacy technicians will play an expanded role. Pharmacists will need help as they become increasingly involved with medication therapy management and accountable patient care. Because of these important roles in America's health care system, it is critical that technicians function in accordance with acceptable standards for education, training, certification, and regulatory oversight.
