Innovation and Appraisal of Sustainability Efforts in La Amistad, Bocas del Toro, Panama and Talamanca, Costa Rica Region: A Synthesis

Sustainability in practice is really about sustaining decision-making processes that are empirically based, adaptable, and seek to secure the common interest. Many researchers and decision makers currently focus on biophysical resources and believe that they are the sole feature that matters in achieving Sustainability. In contrast, the fate of these resources is determined by the kinds of decisions we, and future generations, make. A sharp, realistic focus on the decision making process and the innovations underway to upgrade the quality and effectiveness of outcomes is essential if we wish to learn to approximate Sustainability in practice.
