Editor's Corner: The Future of JSAD-A New Direction for a Venerable Journal

TAKING ON THE EDITORSHIP of the Journal of Studieson Alcohol and Drugs (JSAD) is a humbling experience,given the distinguished lineage that has brought this journalto its current position in the field of addiction studies. E.M. Jellinek, Mark Keller, John Carpenter, Jack Mendelson/Nancy Mello, and most recently Marc Schuckit all have lefttheir mark on the journal and its contributions to the field.Therefore, any new editor would be wise to respect and pro-tect the institution that is JSAD. That said, the passing of thebaton from one editor to another provides an opportunity totake stock of where we are and to chart a course for wherewe want to be as a journal and as a field.
