Dynamic stability of beams subjected to end periodic and static tensile axial loads

摘要

Prediction of dynamic stability boundaries of the structural members subjected to the periodic axial loads is an important input for the structural design engineers. The dynamic stability of structural members is well discussed in the classic work of Bolotin1. The dynamic stability of columns is briefly discussed by Timoshenko and Gere2. In Ref.3, the dynamic stability of slender bars, subjected to a periodic concentrated axial load and a static compressive load at the ends of the beam, is investigated by using a finite element formulation. It is observed that, in this interesting study, the first modes of vibration and buckling are similar, for the several boundary conditions considered, that makes the dynamic stability regions to be the same with properly non-dimensionalizing the basic physical parameters of the problem.
