Influence of sowing date, nitrogen and plant growth regulators on growth and yield of coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.).

Field experiments were conducted during 2003-05 in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India to determine the effect of sowing date, nitrogen and plant growth regulators on the growth and yield of coriander (Coriandrum sativum cv. RCr-41). Treatments comprised: three sowing dates (15 October, 30 October and 15 November), two N rates (60 and 75 kg/ha) and two plant growth regulators (25 ppm NAA and 50 ppm GA3 at 30 and 75 days after sowing). Among the sowing dates, sowing on 15 October resulted in crops with significantly highest plant height, number and weight of green leaves per plant, number of branches and number of nodes on the main shoot per plant. Crops sown on 15 October also exhibited significant improvement in yield attributes including, the highest number of umbels per plant, umbellets per umbel, seeds per umbel, test weight, biological yield and stover yield and thus contributed towards the highest seed yield of 12.57 q/ha. Higher N rates did not show any significant effect on the growth and yield of coriander. Foliar spray of NAA at 30 days after sowing resulted in significant higher growth and seed yield, which was at par with GA spray at 30 days after sowing..
