Guest Editorial: Unleashing the Potential of Nursing to Transform Health and Health Care

Many challenges confront the US health care system, including an aging and sicker population, a primary care shortage, lack of preventive care, and rising costs. At the same time, the system is undergoing rapid transformation. Millions of Americans are eligible for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act. The Affordable Care Act contains provisions to strengthen primary and preventive care while better managing rising health care costs. Care is moving away from the inpatient to the outpatient setting, as well as into the home and community.
