German construction growth grinds to a halt, slows in UK

Construction activity in Germany has declined for the first time since December. At 49.8, down from 50.6, the Germany Construction Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) showed that total construction activity in Germany declined marginally during August, ending a seven-month sequence of expansion. Underlying the overall contraction was a marked month-on-month decrease in civil engineering activity. Commercial building work also decreased modestly since July. Meanwhile, residential activity rose for the eighth month running, albeit at the weakest rate in the current sequence of expansion.
