POLLEN MORPHOLOGICAL STUDIES OF SOM IMPORTANT TROPICAL PLANTS AT LUCKNOV UTTAR PRADESH, INDIA

摘要

This paper describes and illustrates the pollen morphological features of 28 plant species belonging to 23 families from BSIP garden as well as in and around the Lucknow Township. Widespread variation with respect to the number and nature of aperturesas well as in sexine patterns of different pollen has been observed. Information on the mode of pollination, habit as well as habitat of each species, as given in the text as it will aid in palaeo-ecological interpretations. This study could be of greathelp in taxonomy to understand the affinities of modern plant groups/families in ascertaining the defined status of plants in the various taxonomic groups, in determining the evolution of different pollen grains, in precise identification of sub-fossilpollen recovered in modern surface as well as Late Quaternary sediment profile/core samples and in unfolding the palaeotloristics of different regions especially the tropical regions of India as well as of the adjoining similar tropical countries.
