POLLEN MORPHOLOGY OF THE SOUTH INDIAN MEMBERS OF THE FAMILY SCROPHULARIACEAE: A RESEARCH MONOGRAPH

摘要

It is common knowledge that the spores in cryptogams and pollen in Spermatophytes are special propagules for life perenation of life forms in plants. These special propagules vary in their genetic make up, structure and function. In the algae, for example, the vegetative structure is a gametophyte and the spore, the zygote to be precise is the sporophyte although there are ample numbers of gametophytic modifications to produce spore like bodies to tide over unfavaourable situations among which may be mentioned the heterocyst, the akinete and so on.
