Reconstruction of a traumatic frontoparietal defect using three-dimensional imaging and lipofilling

With liposuction and lipofilling gaining popularity as a plastic surgery procedure, the possibilities of the use of autologous fat transplants as a soft-tissue substitute are increasingly explored.1 Since the esthetic defect of facial deformities is very obvious, reconstruction in this area is frequently requested. Using three-dimensional (3D) imaging techniques available nowadays it is possible to accurately visualize and calculate the volume of facial defects. We present a 49-year-old man with a facial defect after a car accident 26 years ago. Clinical examination showed an obvious asymmetry with a large depression located right frontoparietal. The patient was informed about the options for reconstruction of the defect. After detailed consideration the patient agreed on treatment with lipofilling using autologous fat.
