Surgical treatment of extensive subcutaneous calcification of the forearm in CREST syndrome

Soft-tissue and subcutaneous calcification is a recognised manifestation in connective tissue diseases such as sclero-derma, polymyositis, dermatomyositis and systemic lupus erythematodes (SLE).1 Scleroderma is a generalised disorder of connective tissue, which occurs in different sub-types such as progressive systemic sclerosis or its limited cutaneous form, the CREST syndrome (calcinosis, Raynaud's phenomenon, esophageal hypomotility, sclerodactyly, tel-angiectasia).2 Patients with CREST syndrome are typically seen initially with Raynaud's phenomenon but late involvement of dystrophic calcification based on an abnormal calcium-solubility product is common.2 Previous reports have already described subcutaneous calcification in association with CREST syndrome related to the upper limb
