BASF: Primer-less and wet-on-wet OEM painting better for environment

BASF is highlighting the efficiencies to both business and the environment of automotive OEM painting without primer or with the use of wet-on-wet techniques. The company uses evidence from a recently conducted study with painting machinery manufacturer Diirr which examined the environmental impact, including energy use and emissions, in proportion to a product's cost-effectiveness. The entire life cycle of a product was considered, i.e. from raw material sourcing to product manufacture and use, to disposal. The study also identified costs incurred during product manufacture and use. BASF says it will use the study as a basis for eco-efficiency comparisons between painting systems.
