A simple guide during early expansion following immediate breast reconstruction.

Adding a few drops of Bleu Patente V sodique 2.5percent w/v solution (Bleu Patente V Guerbet), also known as iso-sulfan blue 1.0percent w/v solution in the United States (Lymhazurin; U.S. Surgical/Tyco International), to 50-100 ml of the 0.9percent normal saline instilled into the breast expander during immediate reconstruction colours the intraluminal fluid a dark blue. During follow-up expansion, a needle is inserted in the filler port until the resistance of the needle guard is felt, at which time some intraluminal blue-tinted saline is withdrawn (Figure 1).
