A method for accurately designing flaps for use in reconstructive surgery of the oral and oropharyngeal region using surgical wire

We write this letter to describe a novel technique that designs the skin island more accurately using surgical wires. Reconstructive surgery in the head and neck region is one of the most difficult regions to obtain stable post-operative function and good cosmetic result. Above all, in the case of reconstruction for oral and oropharyngeal cancer resection, the tissue defect is a complicated three-dimensional shape, making it difficult to design a skin island even after accurately recognizing the shape of the tissue defect.
