Clariant returns to profit in 2010 as Swiss company moves to acquire Sud-Chemie

Clariant has emerged from a two-year, comprehensive restructuring programme with profitability higher than at any time in the past ten years and poised to complete a major acquisition in the form of Sud-Chemie. Net profit at the Swiss speciality chemical firm rebounded to a CHF 191 million (?l48m/$200m) profit in 2010 from a loss in 2009 of CHF 194 million, as costs were reduced and the global economy improved faster than many experts expected.
