Torrential rains drive UK painters and decorators inside

The unseasonably wet summer being experienced in the UK this year has injected new vigor into the interior decorating market as consumers retreat indoors, says marketing services firm GfK. LIKE-FOR-LIKE sales of interior decorating products have soared whilst their outdoor counterparts have suffered as a result of the summer's torrential rains, according to data compiled by GfK, which monitors retail spending. Sales of emulsion paint rocketed in June, up 21.1% on 2006 to pound35.6 million (EUR53m) in value. The growth has been achieved on the back of standard emulsion sales (+23.5%), and increased consumer interest in robust performance varieties such as durable emulsion (+37.0%), said GfK.
