摘要

This study examines landholder perceptions of, and responses to, the irrigation-induced salinity hazard in the Tragowel Plains, in northern Victoria, Australia. The paper is based on the hazards research paradigm developed within the social sciences. The investigation, based on questionnaire surveys [n=66, date not given] and farm case studies, reveals a relatively high level of awareness of the salinity hazard. Adjustments to the hazard include changes in both land management and in land use. Theresearch shows that farmers' interactions with insidious hazards are complex. Implications for the way in which agricultural sustainability is promoted are discussed.
