Varietal Screening of Chickpea Against Dry Root Rot Disease*

摘要

Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is an important pulse crop in India. Due to continuous and extensive cultivation under rainfed conditions in Jharkhand, dry root rot of chickpea caused by Macrophomina phaseolina (Tassi) Goid (Rhizoctonia bataticola (Taub) Briton-Jones has emerged as an important devastating and damaging disease (Ahmad and Mohammad, 1986). The pathogen is soil borne and survives in soil for several years (Pandey and Srivastava, 1990). Dry root rot fungus has a very high degree of pathogenic variability. In the present studies, chickpea varieties were evaluated for resistance against dry root rot disease both under natural and artificial epiphytotics to find out resistant genotypes.
