Merck cuts 10% of German workforce

German pharmaceutical and chemical maker Merck says it will cut 10% of its workforce in Germany by 2015. The approximately 1,100 positions that are to be eliminated from a workforce of 10,900 in Germany are part of the company's "Fit for 2018" business transformation programme, announced in February, spanning all businesses and regions in order to secure Merck's long-term competitiveness.
