Coatings division at US paint company Valspar sees five consecutive quarters of volume growth

Valspar said income was flat in the first quarter of 2011, as market growth benefitted the coatings division more than Paints, and charges related to the acquisition of Australian paints firm Wattyl ate into profits. Both divisions were impacted by raw material price rises. Net profit for the three months to the end of January came in at $33.4 million, $500,000 less than the $33.9 million the US firm made a year earlier, while total sales increased 25% to $842 million.
