EVALUATION OF A FIELD PORTABLE IMMUNOASSAY KIT FOR MONITORING ATRAZINE IN THE POTOMAC WATERSHED

The Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) requires that all public water systems (PWSs) routinely monitor for potential chemical and microbiological contaminants in the treated drinking water that they provide to their customers. One group of contaminants that is of concern is the synthetic organic compounds (SOCs), which include pesticides used to control insects (insecticides) and unwanted vegetation (herbicides). In the United States, herbicides account for most of the pesticide use. Many of these compounds readily dissolve in, and are transported by, water. Atrazine is one of these compounds and is the subject of this paper.
