Nearly everyone in the coatings industry, at some point, will face an audit or will have to perform an audit of their own — and if not, they should. At a minimum, companies should routinely perform internal audits to either meet certification requirements or just to check-up on their processes or projects. All of us in the industry should be auditing our subcontractors and vendors to the extent that they affect quality. I've been both the auditor (office) and the auditee (field); both have specific responsibilities and actions, and both can be frustrating. This article will discuss audit basics from all perspectives.
