Fluoropolymers, introduced in the 1930s, are known for their excellent thermal, chemical, and weather resistance, along with surface properties like water and oil resistance, and optical properties. Because of their properties, fluoropofy-mers have been used in coatings on a variety of substrates. For example, fluo-ropolymers for coatings include aqueous dispersions of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), tetrafluoroethylene/hexafluo-roethylene copolymers (FEP), and TFE/perfluoroalkyl vinyl ether copoly-mers (PFA). These materials are used primarily in non-stick and anti-corrosion coatings.
