Hames Contracting To Work on Huey P. Long Bridge

The City of New Orleans, on behalf of the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad Commission, awarded a contract of USD3,900,000 to Names Contracting, Inc. (Alpharetta, GA) for coatings work on the 4.35-mile-long Huey P. Long Bridge. The contract, which required SSPC-QP1 and OP 2 certifications, involves recoating existing structural steel surfaces on 1,150 feet of deck truss spans. The steel will be abrasive blast cleaned with steel grit to a Near-White finish (SSPC-SP 1.0) and recoated with alkyd-based calcium borosilicate primer and intermediate coats, followed by an alkyd varnish finish. The contract includes containment of the existing lead-based coatings.
