Experimantal work covered the 2001 -2004 period. The trial was three-factorial and included 27 treatments. Overground biomass of a mixed stand of winter vetch (variety Asko 1) and triticale (variety Belitsa 1) was used as an initial material. The objective of this study was to determine chemical composition of forage depending on sowing time, component ratio in sowing rate and harvesting stage. The results showed that content of crude protein, crude fibre, calcium and phosphorus in the mixed stand was determined mainly by the crop developmental stage and more slightly by the sowing time. The crude protein content in the overground biomass of winter vetch and triticaie from first harvesting stage (budding-earing) to third stage (first pods-milky ripeness) decreased by 11.7 and 23.6%, respectively. As for the sowing time factor there was a decrease in the protein content from first (20-25 September) to third sowing date (20-25 October) with values of 4.0% for the legume component and 15.6% for the grass one. The crude fibre content at third harvesting stage, as compared to first stage increased by 18.1% in winter vetch and by 20.1% in tnticale. Averaged values according to sowing dates showed slight variation in the fibre content in both components,the highest value being recorded for the plants from second date. There were no clear and unidirectional differences in chemical composition of the crops in the different treatments that could be due to the different ratios of the two components in thesowing rate.
