Impact of Drying Process on the Structure and Properties of Chlorinated Natural Rubber from Latex

The convection thin-layer drying experiments for Chlorinated Natural Rubber from latex (CNR) were designed according to quadratic regressing orthogonal methods. The influence of drying temperature, air velocity and granularity of samples on the drying rate and properties of dried samples were analyzed. The factors that mainly influence the drying rate have been determined. FTIR and UV-spectra were applied to determine the effect of drying temperature on the structure of dried CNR. The results show that when the drying temperature is increasing, the drying rate is increasing, drying time and its energy-consumption are reducing, viscosity of product is rising, but the chlorine content hasn't change obviously which depends on the change of drying temperature. So the product can be dried in higher temperature (120°C) and the properties of CNR product can meet the demand of use. The results of FTIR and UV-spectra analysis show that there are some changes in the fine structure of dried CNR, but the main structure hasn't been varied, and there exist -C=O and heterocyclic aromatic ring in CNR.
