摘要

Two cultivars of pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan (L) Millspaugh) namely T21 and LRG30 were grown under 0.5,1.0 and 1.5 mM concentrations of lead and cadmium. Electron micrographs of the root cortical cells of the two pigeonpea cultivars exposed to lead and cadmium showed increased vacuolation. Electron dense globules appeared in the vacuoles of the root cortical cells in response to heavy metal exposure. The metal depositions showed an interesting developmental pattern. The induction of vacuolation and their possible role under lead and cadmium stresses are discussed.
