Plant Environmental Proteomics: Let Proteins Speak under Different Environments

Proteomics covers the systematic analysis of proteins expressed by a genome, from the identification of their primary amino-acid sequence to the determination of their relative amounts, their state of modification and association with other proteins or molecules of different types. Plants, which are sessile in nature and must adapt to the ever-changing environmental conditions, have fairly complex and well-developed mechanisms to cope with a variety of biotic and abiotic stresses. How the environmentbrings changes in protein profiles under particular factor/stimuli is the subject of environmental proteomics. These proteins, which are found to play crucial roles under stress may be identified, sequenced and ultimately lead to the identification of gene(s) to code them. This review covers the studies done on different organisms under stressful conditions and also a general detail of development in the field of plant proteomics.
