Effect of postharvest treatments on vase life of Asparagus species

Citric acid at 300 mg/l, 6-benzyladenine at 10 mg/l and gibberellin at 50 mg/l in vase solutions extended the longevity of fronds of Asparagus myrie and Asparagus densiflorus, whereas NaOCl and citric acid improved vase life of Asparagus setaceus. Citric acid was thus effective in all the three species. Aluminium sulphate had no effect on the longevity of fronds, whereas NaOCl caused reduction in vase life in Asparagus myrie and Asparagus densiflorus.
