Coal mining generated 65-bil dollars in 2008 GDP

Coal mining was directly responsible for adding 65 billion dollars to the US gross domestic product in 2008, a National Mining Association-commissioned study released Monday shows. In “The Economic Contributions of US Mining in 2008,” PricewaterhouseCoopers reports that coal mining makes up 36% of total US mining jobs, followed by non-metallic mining at 30% and metal ore extraction at 27%.
