Bailey coal makes its first trip to Chinese cokers, as Consol looks ahead

Consol Energy said Monday that it has made the first sale of its high-vol Bailey metallurgical coal to Chinese coking coal plants under a previously announced exclusive marketing agreement with Xcoal Energy and Resources (PCT 12/8/09). The sale marks the first time that the Northern Appalachian coal from the Bailey underground mine is being sold as met coal in Asia, a spokesman for the company said Monday. Consol said the 82,000-short ton Panamax cargo to be loaded in Baltimore is for merchant coke plants in the Tianjin and Guafeng area, according to a company statement.
