PVR CAPP deal adds mostly steam coal

Penn Virginia Resource Partners' 97.25 million dollars acquisition of coalproducing properties in Kentucky and Tennessee from Begley Properties expands its current geographic footprint in Central Appalachia mostly with steam coal, much of it sold to utilities in the Southeast. PVR CEO William Shea Jr. said in a Wednesday statement, “The acquisition of the Begley properties will provide significant geographic synergies with PVR's current assets in the Central Appalachia coal region, will contribute to the diversification of our lessee base and will increase access to strategic rail shipping facilities to service southeast utility markets.”
