The New South Wales government has run into early difficulties in its plans to privatize the six coal mines operated by Powercoal. The state's private producers are objecting to conditions of the sale which protect the jobs of Powercoal's 1200 miners.It is understood the government wants the 1200 mining jobs guaranteed for three years, backed with a new collective bargaining agreement. The leading prospective purchaser for the state mines, Glencore/Enex, has publicly slammed the sale conditions, with other producers privately agreeing they make the sale "next to impossible."
