The Philippines government has refused a petition from coal producer Semirara Mining Corp. to maintain the existing 7 percent tariff on imported bituminous coal and sub-bituminous coal until 2003, an official of the government's Tariff Commission said.Semirara, the Philippines' largest coal producer, had asked the government to maintain the current 7 percent tariff until 2003 to provide sufficient time for the local coal producers to adapt to a tariff reduction.
