Structure in WV coal silo caves in, trapping worker

Workers with Morgantown Energy Associates (MEA) in West Virginia scrambled on March 1 and 2 to save a worker believed trapped when a structure inside a 130-foot-tall coal silo collapsed at the company's Beechurst Avenue power station.The cause of the partial collapse, which occurred about 1:30 a.m. on March 1, was unknown. The Morgantown, WV company brought in experts from around the country, including the Mine Safety & Health Administration, to provide advice on dealing with the accident. MEA also was working with the Morgantown fire department in attempting to rescue the worker as Coal Week went to press.
