Nanotechnology and dermatology: part I--potential of nanotechnology.

摘要

Nanotechnology is a burgeoning field with tremendous potential for society and medicine. Currently, it is entering an exponential growth phase in the number and variety of products soon to be or already available for consumers and patients. Very little is known about the safety aspects of the nanoengineered materials that are being released in our environment, in consumer products, and in health care products. The American Academy of Dermatology and the American Contact Dermatitis Society are at the forefront of evaluating new substances and informing patients about safety issues related to cutaneous household, environmental, and occupational exposures. This contribution serves to educate our society about the benefits and pitfalls of a new, potentially exciting-and potentially dangerous-technology.
