Consol lowers guidance to fewer Q3 tons; cost control measures in place

Consol Energy has lowered its production guidance for the third quarter to 15 million short tons, down from the previous range of 16.4 million to 18.4 million st, the Pittsburgh coal producer said Wednesday. Lower-than-expected production in the quarter came from several factors, including several roof falls along mainline belts because of changing humidity levels; delays in resuming longwall production following equipment moves at several mines because the sites were not quite ready; and increased frequency of inspections related to health and safety regulations, which caused a reduction in the availability of mining equipment, Consol said.
