Vectren to boost 2013 coal production at mines despite expected losses

Vectren expects to boost coal production at its southern Indiana mines this year after output dipped in both the fourth quarter and all of 2012, but its coal mining business is forecasted to continue losing money at least through 2013, the Evansville, Indiana-based electric and natural gas company said Friday. In 2012, Vectren's coal production fell to 4.8 million short tons of high-sulfur steam coal from 5.1 million st in 2011.
