Miss. river operators optimistic over Corps' work

With recent rains and rock removal work that has gone better than expected, shippers on the Upper Mississippi River are optimistic there will be enough water for operations at least through the middle of February. The Army Corps of Engineers announced this weekend that rock removal work near Thebes, Illinois, is not only complete, but that the river channel in the area has been lowered an additional two feet.
