Consol Energy touts cost controls amid lower metallurgical coal prices

Consol Energy said Thursday its second-quarter net income nearly doubled to 153 million dollars from 77 million dollars in the year-ago period, largely because of one-time gains on the sale of non-core properties. The Pittsburgh-based coal and natural gas producer said Q2 coal production totaled 14.6 million short tons, down from 15.4 million st a year earlier.
