The incidence of avascular necrosis of the femoral head changes with the hip abduction angle in the hip spica in treatment of developmental dislocation of the hip

We have read the article of Madhu et a/. [1] from Leeds. This report evaluates the incidence of avascular necrosis (AVN) of the femoral head with higher and lower abduction angle in the hip spica cast in treatment of developmental dislocation of the hip. The AVN rate was not statistically significant between group 1 (abduction > 50°) and group 2 (abduction < 50°). The authors concluded that the results show a nonsignificant reduction in the incidence of AVN when the hip abduction angle was reduced with no significant increased risk of redislocation.
