Jarvis Coal plans new Indiana surface mine

Jarvis Coal, a small family-owned company in southern Indiana, plans to open a 500,000-short ton/year surface mine in Clay County by early 2013 after the state Department of Natural Resources approved a mining permit this week. The permit covers 591.1 surface acres, Eric Langer, an official with DNR's Division of Reclamation, said Thursday.
