BNSF posts record first quarter, average revenues per coal car up

BNSF Railway reported late Friday another record first quarter, posting earnings of $912 million compared with $789 million in the year-ago quarter, a 15.6% increase. The record earnings came despite a decline in coal revenues, which slipped to $1.21 billion in the quarter compared with $1.24 billion in the first quarter of 2011, a 2.4% decline.
