A federal appeals court in Richmond, Virginia, has upheld the conviction of the Upper Big Branch coal mine's security chief at the time of a deadly April 2010 underground explosion at the West Virginia mine then owned by Massey Energy (PCT 5/24). “The district court sentenced defendant to 36 months imprisonment on the counts of conviction,” judges for the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit wrote in a decision filed Friday.
