New ESPGHAN editor: Some thoughts on JPGN

Do your remember the journal in which you published your first article? In my case it was the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition (JPGN). I still have the acceptance letter, by postal mail (hard to believe there were no e-mails!), and signed by Professor Michael Lentze, the serving editor. Twenty years later, I am greatly honored to have been appointed as the European Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition editor for the forthcoming term of 2014 through 2018.What is my vision? We are in the middle of a communication revolution. Centuries ago, it was paper and printing that revolutionized communication. Technology has since dramatically changed the way we communicate and exchange information. The Internet enables instant communication and instant access to information. E-mails have replaced traditional letters. Social media has reshaped our personal as well as professional lives. Information and communication technologies have even changed the way we practice medicine. Still, throughout these periods of dramatic change, many of our values remain constant; in particular, we continue to appreciate high quality! Thus, my vision for JPGN is to be the highest-quality journal in our field.
