Lawrence Charles Parish, MD, MD (Hon) was bom on October 12,1938 at Cambridge, Massachusetts. His father, then a general practitioner, often took him on home calls, so that at an early age he had already decided upon a medical career. His mother was the guiding light who made this a reality.After undergraduate training at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, he took his medical training at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. He returned to Philadelphia for an internship at the Philadelphia General Hospital and dermatology training at the University of Pennsylvania under Donald Pillsbury and Walter Shelley. It was during this time that he met his wife, Sheila.
