STB Oks G&W's acquisition of railAmerica

Short-line railroad Genesee & Wyoming expects to close its $2 billion purchase of RailAmerica on or around October 1, CEO Jack Hellmann said Wednesday. Hellmann cited at a New York investors' conference an application approval issued Wednesday by the Surface Transportation Board that finds the proposed acquisition is, according to the ruling, a “minor transaction” that, based on the board's preliminary determination, will not have any anti-competitive effects.
