Despite being issued a final Illinois mining permit, Arch Coal is mum on when it plans to begin developing its new Lost Prairie underground mine in northern Perry County, once a hotbed of activity for the St. Louis-based company. Arch spokeswoman Kim Link said Tuesday the company has not indicated when development will commence. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources’ Office of Mines and Minerals awarded a permit for Lost Prairie last week. Plans for the new mine were unveiled almost a year ago (PCT 10/12/10). The Perry County Board has approved a 10-year special use permit for the mine.
