Hemiplegic migraine with reversible cerebral vasoconstriction caused by ATP1A2 mutations

We report two patients suffering from migraine with aura since youth. Patient 1, a now 29-year-old man weighing 85 kg, had long reported an aura of mild hemiparesis followed by typical pulsing headache for approximately two hours and prolonged weakness of extremities for up to 24 h. Frequency was once every 6 weeks. Patient 2, a now 3 3-year-old woman weighing 80 kg, was suffering twice a month from attacks of scotoma with subsequent numbness, and hemiparesis followed by contralateral severe pulsing headache. Focal neurological deficits remained not longer than half an hour while headache remained for up to 2 days. Family history was negative in both patients.
